Earlier this year I teamed up with Artspace Workshops of New College Nottingham to run a series of courses in Photography. This is a programme aimed at teaching creative arts to adults either to learn a technique for the first time or to brush up on their skills. I was teaching the Learn to Photograph course aimed at teaching people how to understand the main aspects of their digital cameras and how to use them for more creative shots.
Last Saturday was my last course as Artspace will not be continuing in its present form next year. I hope it gets the funding necessary to run their fantastic range of courses. I had a group of three on Saturday who were all extremely keen on learning more about their cameras and how to get better pictures. One of the main parts of the day is the walk round. Here we walk around the Stoney Street area and look for different things to photograph and play with the different settings. The group then pick two of their favourite shots, enhance them with Photoshop and then discuss their shots with each other. I was extremely pleased with the shots the group took and I would like to share them with you.
This is a shot of another student called Delia, taken by Karin. I loved the shapes in the shots and the light which lit Delia's face, highlighting her high cheekbones.

This was taken by Stephen and was shot from inside the college (the curved arch). We all liked the way the curved doorway was a contrast to the vertical which dominated the surrounding buildings
The final shot is a series of squares that are on the pavement. Delia saw these and we created two versions; one in colour and this one in Black and White. We all loved the way that the different pieces of glass were highlighted in each pane.

And before you all ask; no it wasn't a Black and White course but they really wanted to play in monochrome.
I really enjoyed the day and if anyone is interested in attending one of these classes please give me a call.
